Every wedding is as unique as the couple tying the knot, and with the rich diversity of cultural elements, it can be tricky to follow a one-size-fits-all timeline. That said, there are ideal time frames to consider when planning your big day. These suggestions ensure we have the opportunity to capture every meaningful detail while keeping your day running smoothly.
I hope this guide will help you build a timeline that reflects your needs and leaves plenty of time for creating breathtaking memories.
Ideal Time Allotment: 1 hour
The bride’s preparation is one of my favourite parts of the day because it’s full of beautiful, intimate moments. I like to start by photographing the important details: the dress, rings, jewelry, shoes, bouquet, and other personal touches. Once the details are captured, I move on to candid shots of the bride getting her hair and makeup done, surrounded by loved ones. These moments are filled with emotion, excitement, and anticipation, making them truly magical.
If time allows, I can also start with the groom’s preparation (typically 40–60 minutes) before transitioning to the bride. Alternatively, having a second photographer can ensure the groom’s preparation is covered in detail, allowing me to dedicate my full attention to the bride.
Pro Tip:
Right after preparation is the perfect time for individual portraits of the bride and groom as well as family portraits. This is when makeup and hair are fresh, and the atmosphere is still calm and relaxed. These portraits often become some of the most cherished images from the day!
Ideal Time Allotment: 45–70 minutes
The first look is a truly special part of the day. It’s an intimate moment for the bride and groom to see each other for the first time, away from the hustle and bustle. The first look itself takes about 10–15 minutes, and the rest of the time is dedicated to capturing some stunning portraits of you as a couple.
This time allows us to work with natural light and creates an opportunity for authentic, emotion-filled images. It’s also a chance to ease into the day, share a quiet moment together, and feel more comfortable in front of the camera.
Pro Tip:
If your timeline allows, plan the first look during soft natural light—ideally late morning or early afternoon—to make the most of the gorgeous Texas sunshine.
Ideal Time Allotment: 30–45 minutes
Wedding party photos are a fun and lively part of the day! Depending on the size of your bridal party, we’ll start with formal, classic poses and then transition into more creative, playful shots. This is also a great time to showcase the dynamic and energy of your closest friends and family who are standing by your side on this special day.
Pro Tip:
Encourage your wedding party to stay on schedule and be ready for photos to ensure we capture everything efficiently. Bringing some light snacks and water can keep everyone energized!
Ideal Time Allotment: 30 minutes
Family photos are a must-have, and a little preparation goes a long way. I always recommend that couples prepare a detailed list of group combinations in advance. This ensures we don’t miss anyone important and helps the process move smoothly.
Pro Tip:
Designate a family member or friend who knows everyone to help gather groups quickly. This helps us stay on schedule and keeps the energy high.
Ideal Time Allotment: 15–20 minutes
The details of your ceremony and reception venue tell a story about your day. I love capturing all the thoughtful touches you’ve worked so hard to plan, from floral arrangements and table settings to ceremony programs and, of course, the cake!
These shots happen before guests arrive to ensure everything is pristine and picture-perfect. I’ll also capture candid moments of the day as it unfolds, ensuring no detail goes unnoticed.
Pro Tip:
Trust me to capture your vision. Share any must-have detail shots with me in advance so I can plan accordingly.
My goal is to make the photography part of your wedding day feel effortless and fun. While I’ll be by your side to capture every key moment, I’ll also ensure the day flows naturally and that we don’t miss any of the magic.
Planning your timeline carefully not only helps us create amazing photos but also gives you the peace of mind to enjoy every second of your celebration.
